Roleplaying our distance ancestors in a sandbox setting, without all the stupid high fantasy stuff that other developers love to cram into their games? Hell yeah, sign me up, that sounds awesome! I'll make my own dramas, get fully invested in living the life of an early hominid for a while. Like, I'm the sort of person who really enjoys wading through Wikipedia articles and opinion pieces about why Turkana Boy was or wasn't representative of ♥♥♥♥ Ergaster because of his potential genetic abnormalities, so this kind of a game really struck a nerve for me.

I very much enjoy the premise of this game, but I feel like perhaps that's the problem in why it didn't get enough interest for a sequel to be financially tempting.
